We’ve been in the avalanche transceiver business for over 15 years. Our company goals are not limited to sales and marketing: we strive to have fun and save lives. So we don’t mind telling you that an avalanche beacon might not save your life. Getting educated will save your life. Preventing burial will save your life. Effective shoveling will save your life. When we tell you that shoveling skills and education are just as important as beacon technology, it might sound counterintuitive, but it’s the truth. This year we’re taking it a step further. We don’t want you to ever have to use your beacon. If you get caught in an avalanche, your best chance of survival is to stay on the surface. That’s why we’ve developed the Float 30 avalanche airbag. An airbag isn’t meant to replace your beacon, but it gives you a much better chance of surviving an accident. It’s the truth and that’s how we roll at BCA.

FLOAT AVALANCHE AIRBAG stay afloat
The Float 30 is the first avalanche airbag that is both affordable and easily reuseable. We use a smaller cylinder, single-chamber 150-liter airbag, and super-efficient venturi system to reduce cost and weight. The airbag itself not only helps prevent burial, but protects the head, neck and upper body from trauma. preventing burials: the next frontier
According to BCA research, preventing burial depth is the key to reducing avalanche fatalities. Excavation time is by far the biggest factor in avalanche fatalities in North America*. While a beacon search can take on the order of a few minutes, digging up the victim can take on the order of a half hour. Avoidance, of course, is the best way to prevent avalanche fatalities. The next best way is to reduce–or eliminate–the depth of burial. This is the purpose of our Float 30 avalanche airbag.
