European Outdoor Group thanks members for supporting the successful return of OutDoor by ISPO and continues to plan for new era of trade shows

The European Outdoor Group (EOG) has thanked its members and the wider industry who supported the return of the OutDoor trade fair this year. OutDoor by ISPO was held in Munich earlier this month for only the second time since EOG members voted to move the show in 2018. The EOG has hailed the strong backing that the 2022 event attracted from the association’s membership and called on more organisations to get involved in future editions.

The 2022 OutDoor by ISPO show was hosted at the Munich Order and Convention Centre. The event represented the latest stage of a partnership between the EOG and Messe München, with the vision of delivering a viable, sustainable trade show platform for the long term. The process began in 2019, but was interrupted by the pandemic. For 2022, OutDoor by ISPO was presented at a new venue and moved forward in the calendar, and in 2023, the show will be even earlier, from 22-24 May.

EOG president Mark Held comments: “After the pause caused by the pandemic, a new venue for OutDoor by ISPO was a particular challenge for this first, post pandemic show. We are absolutely delighted that the changes we made to OutDoor by ISPO together with our partner Messe München this year seem to be well received, and we have created the vibrant event that our sector needs. The outdoor industry was founded on shared values and community, and we are really appreciative of the decisiveness and engagement for the show from all the exhibitors and visitors that chose to support us. Their faith in the concept was proven to be right and the blend of practicality, atmosphere, fun and excitement made the event something really special.

“Initial feedback from EOG members and the wider trade is that the show was successful and that the MOC offered the right venue for this return to face-to-face events. More improvements are already in the works based on feedback from those who attended, and we look forward to seeing you all again in a few months.”

EOG general secretary Arne Strate adds: “We know that large, in-person events are fundamental to the future success of our industry and our community. As such, we wish to extend our sincerest appreciation and gratitude to the brands, retailers, and others from the sector, who showed up and made the show an engaging and invaluable event. They took a risk and showed decisive leadership, and ultimately allowed OutDoor by ISPO to successfully return. Because of their support, we can confidently look forward to a very new and exciting era of trade shows.”

The EOG and Messe München have already begun the process of preparing for the 2023 edition of OutDoor by ISPO. Feedback from this year’s event will be factored into this planning, and a working group will continue to develop and refine key aspects of the event to enhance its immediate and long term appeal.
